What is a Dietitian (RD)?

A dietitian is a person who is trained in the science of nutrition and dietetics. Dietitians have completed formal approved educational programs in dietetics (or their equivalents) that were established to meet The Commission on Dietetic Registration. These programs are accredited by The Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (source). All registered dietitians are nutritionists, but not all nutritionists are registered dietitians.

Upon graduation, Dana went on to complete her dietetic internship at one of the most competitive programs in the country – the University of Houston Dietetic Internship Program (2007). In addition to licensure as a RD, Dana sought out certification in nutrition support –- a sophisticated and specialized practice –- and was awarded licensure as a Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) for the certification period 2010 – 2015.

Undergraduate awards include Magna Cum Laude (3.67 GPA) and Nutrition Student of the Year awarded by the Department of Health and Human Performance (University of Houston, 2006).
